Event Details

Unbossed and Unbowed is an immersive and interactive solo show about Shirley Chisholm, a Brooklyn-born politician of immigrant parents, who in the 20th century, was the first African-American woman to win a seat in the U.S. Congress and to run for the Presidency of the United States. In the 1960s and 1970s, this Brooklyn-born daughter of Caribbean parents was on a mission. They called her the black Joan of Arc. She called herself Fighting Shirley as she faced off against the political machine in the name of justice. Written and performed by Ingrid Griffith, a performer, playwright and teaching artist of Guyanese heritage, who moved to the U.S. at age twelve.
