Event Details

The Event will feature three separate “know your rights” presentations. The presentations will be in English and Spanish. Fact Sheets will be provided in English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole. The presentations will be as follows:

At 5:30 pm, Nassau Suffolk Law Services will present Know Your Rights: Common Tenant Problems. Nassau Suffolk Law Services will discuss tenants' rights when they are behind on their rent and the landlord starts an eviction process, what to do when a landlord is illegally evicting you (such as turning off the heat), and other residential tenant rights.

At 6:15 pm, CARECEN will present: Know Your Rights: Immigration-Related Issues. CARECEN will present on immigration benefits as well as the newly released immigration policies. In addition, CARECEN will review the procedure for applying for public benefits, including SNAP.

At 7:00 pm,  Nassau Suffolk Law Services will present: Know Your Rights: Family Law Related Issues. Nassau Suffolk Law Services will discuss issues related to domestic violence and intimate partner violence including what rights victims have, how to seek orders of protection, and how to seek safety and services for you or someone you know. 

Additionally, there will be a separate space where Long Island non-profit or other organizations specializing in immigration, public benefits, housing, domestic violence, and other areas will be able to speak to and give out information to the community.

For community members seeking an attorney consultation, attorneys and space will be available to have a private consultation on a first-come, first-serve basis.
